Gaps in Elementary School

Most school-age children in this country attend public schools local to their homes starting around age 5 for kindergarten. They do not, however, arrive with the same levels of cognitive and social skills.  Once children enter the formal school system by kindergarten, gaps they bring with them often increase during elementary school.
