How to Use this Site

          Are you a —

Practitioner

Practitioners work directly with children, families, members of a community, or marginalized or under-served or under-represented people every day.  You are a doctor, nurse, social worker or patient care individual in the health services field.  You are pre-K-12 teachers, college and professional and graduate school professors, school administrators.  You are public interest lawyers, judges, case workers, counselors, advocates.  You work at a school, nonprofit, government or other social impact organization.

You spend your days DOING.  You might not have the time to stay up to date on best practices in your field or latest research that could impact and inform your work.  You might be wondering how the WORK YOU DO impacts and improves the world around you, or how it could on a larger scale.

SeeTheGaps is here to help you locate and customize your search for valid, peer-reviewed and highly reliable information about gaps and interventions in your field.  Explore our TOPICS or go straight to a topic of your interest.  Search our RESOURCES by category or tag to home in on a list of organizations who do similar work or list of linked articles to read.  Or search the entire site, including more specific COMMENTARY for a word or phrase of interest.  You can also join the conversation by submitting a COMMENTARY to share your best practices and observations from the field or to develop your own expertise.  We’ll help you edit the piece and integrate with our RESOURCES and CHARTS.

Researcher

Researchers are academics — professors and students at colleges, universities, and graduate and professional schools.  You are designated researchers at think tanks, policy institutes, consulting agencies, government agencies or departments, and private companies.  You may conduct or supervise social science, medical lab, or political or educational research based on your institution’s and industry’s standardized and accepted practices.  You investigate gaps, explore their causes and correlations and effects of interventions.  You are steeped in data, findings, and publishing papers.

You spend your days THINKING.  You might not have the time to investigate how the RESEARCH YOU DO does or could impact practitioners or be relevant to donors looking for high impact places to invest time and money.  You want to better inform your own research and bring your work to a wider audience.

SeeTheGaps is here to help you promote your work to a wider and relevant audience.  Explore our interactive timeline of TOPICS to get a visual sense of how your field or work might overlap with other disciplines.  If your authored work or research is not listed in our RESOURCES, let us know by commenting on that page or by emailing us at info@seethegaps.org.  You can also join the conversation by adding your own comments to our published COMMENTARY or by submitting your own.  Or maybe you have an interesting graph or CHART that helps to visualize the inequality gaps in this country or how your research is helping to close a gap.

Donor/Volunteer

Donors and volunteers have time, skills or financial assets to invest.  You are interested in inequalities and how to close gaps in education and life matters.  Donors are single or groups of individuals, foundations, donor-advised funds, and pro bono or corporate social responsibility departments.  Donors volunteer their time with direct services organizations, serve on school boards, and donate money to causes, organizations, and to further ideas.  You are directed or inspired to do or give more, and do so meaningfully.

You spend your time HELPING.  You might not have the time or resources to conduct your own impact research or are looking for supplemental information to inform your decisions on where, how, and what to donate. You might be wondering how the HELP YOU GIVE can best impact gaps and inequalities in living matters and education.

SeeTheGaps is here to introduce or deepen your knowledge of work, research, and intervention being done in a variety of fields including how to increase access to and success in HIGHER EDUCATION, reduce the life impacts of racial and class segregated housing in NEIGHBORHOODS, and better understand the toxic effects of extreme poverty on PRENATAL care and development.  Every one of our LIVING MATTERS and EDUCATION related TOPICS has a section on cost-benefit analysis that provides descriptions and links to expert findings and analysis of the impact of dollar and policy investments. You can comment on TOPICS pages or expert authored COMMENTARY articles.  Or submit your own based on a particular impact analysis or program participation or development.
